What is the difference between traditional 2D ultrasounds and the 3D & 4D ultrasound you’ve been hearing so much about? The distinction lies in an extra dimension. Ultrasounds of the past have relied on vague outlines and unidentifiable shapes. A 3D & 4D ultrasound leaves nothing to the imagination; with its highly defined images and shapes, this technology provides a unique look at the features of your unborn child.
Same Ultrasound, Different Results
Since there have been so many questions raised about the effect of a 3D & 4D ultrasound on the health of the baby, many parents may decide right away that the procedure is not for them. Actually, a 3D & 4D ultrasound is just as safe as a 2D Ultrasound that is performed by medical doctors on a regular basis. Both rely on the same high frequency sound waves to bounce back an image from the womb. The only difference is that a 3D & 4D ultrasound computer program is developed to read the images differently and reproduce a photo of higher quality.
Memories That Last From a 3D & 4D Ultrasound
While the blurry black and white blips of 2D ultrasounds might still retain their appeal, they simply cannot compare to the realistic insight that a 3D & 4D ultrasound provides. Instead of mere outlines, a 3D & 4D ultrasound allows you to see the shape of your baby’s face and to treasure the contour of his or her growing body parts.
Safety First in a 3D & 4D Ultrasound
As a 3D & 4D ultrasound facility committed to safety, we stress that a 3D/4D ultrasound should never take the place of traditional ultrasounds performed by physicians. A 3D & 4D ultrasound provides an important bonding experience between family and child; an exciting precursor to the life they will share together, but it's not meant to replace a 2D diagnostic scan. We follow strict guidelines to ensure that your 3D & 4D ultrasound is not only rewarding, but performed with the utmost in safety protocol.
How Do I Prepare for a 3D & 4D Ultrasound?
You can always call and ask us what we recommend before your 3D & 4D ultrasound appointment, but we mostly recommend that you be well-hydrated, although your bladder does not need to be full. Wear comfortable clothing, as our sonographer will need to access your abdomen during the 3D & 4D ultrasound.
The most important thing to remember before your 3D and 4D ultrasound is that there are no stupid questions. You are becoming a mother (perhaps again!) and your ability to ask any question that pops into your mind before, during or after your 3D & 4D ultrasound is important.
The nine months of pregnancy can be a stressful time. Each day is full of anticipation and mystery, and a 3D & 4D ultrasound can help you capture some of that excitement and alleviate some of your stress. This technology produces a recognizable face that then lives in the heart of every mother and father and that’s why so many parents are choosing 3D & 4D ultrasound technology. It's more affordable than you might think and every bit as wonderful as you've heard!
